Is flea and/or tick prevention really needed? Fleas can cause severe skin irritation in animals and are responsible for flea allergy dermatitis. Ticks are blood-sucking parasites that attach themselves to animals and can transmit a number of diseases, including Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Lyme disease.
Fleas and ticks can also attach to or bite people. They can colonize rugs, bedding, and clothing. It is important to keep infestation under control. If people or the pets are outside for any length of time, they need to be checked for ticks and fleas.
It is recommended to have a discussion with a local veterinarian to determine the exact treatment or prevention right for your pet.
