Humans find it amusing sometimes that dogs get a strong attachment to their toys or a particular toy. The attachment is not much different than when a toddler becomes attached to a favorite blanket. Often this starts out as a teething soother so the puppy chews on something appropriate but becomes a stronger attachment, and the dog can hold on to a particular toy for months or years. It can often be because a dog is a breed that has a high prey drive, or a maternal instinct if a stuffed animal is the desired toy, and it could just be a source of comfort.
Most of the time there is no concern when a dog is attached to a particular toy. It does not necessarily show any negative concerns regarding the dog’s mental health. If the dog shows any aggressive tendencies and becomes overly aggressive about someone touching the toy or being without it when being cleaned, it could signify behavioral issues that might need to be addressed.
If there is any concern about behavioral issues in the dog, it is always recommended to seek the advice of a veterinarian, to rule out any behavioral or health issues.
